Ala Emeril
Today was yet another unsuccessful attempt to have a healthy lifestyle. Actually, it was more of my inability to create something edible in the kitchen, but why blame myself when I can blame the diet industry that is depriving me of food worth eating? Instead of driving to pick-up something from the drive-thru window, I opted to cook lunch myself. I got three pieces of chicken strips out of the freezer and put it in the oven. Since I haven't eaten vegetables this past week, I decided to change that. I found a can of baby corn in the pantry, as well as a can of green beans. I put some canola oil in the sauce pan and a few drops of sesame oil (because the smell of sesame oil makes everything worth eating, you know). I dumped the two kinds of vegetables in and proceeded to stir fry. I added some black pepper and a sprinkle of seasoning salt...because I can hear Emeril Lagasse telling me to make those vegetables happy (Bam!). After three minutes, I transferred the contents into a casserole dish. While waiting for the chicken to finish, I decided to start on the vegetables...only to find myself spitting them out. As far as I'm concerned green beans in a can should not be sold in stores! Those are nastaaaaaay. Not nasty, but nastaaaaaay. They were THAT bad! Who eats these things?! The can said it was an easy way to add vegetables to any meal. I guess they didn't really say that they tasted good. Dang, so why is the Jolly Green Giant jolly then?! Anyway, I ended up separating the green beans from the baby corn and throwing away the green beans (yes, those poor starving children of the world are going to kick my butt). After lunch was over, I could still smell the stench of those green beans lingering upstairs. Blah.
